About Bushy Wood
Bushy Wood is a scout owned activity centre just off the A 22 near Hailsham in East Sussex, from where Buzz Active lead their land activities.
Set in 17 acres of English woodland, Bushy Wood provides a wonderful environment to be immersed in nature, whilst having access to the simple luxuries of toilets and showers.
Buzz Active Ethos and Aims
Buzz Active exists to provide enjoyable, engaging and educative activities of the highest quality, tailored for school children of all ages. Our sites are surrounded by geographical features, historic landmarks and flora and fauna of all shapes and sizes, giving plenty of opportunity for curriculum links and bringing your classroom outdoors. Whatever outdoor learning outcomes you have in mind we aim to create a programme for you!
Activities
Bushy Wood: climbing, archery, air rifles, high ropes, pioneering, fire lighting, shelter building, team games & more
Cuckmere: kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), raft building, giant SUPs, orienteering, team games.
Eastbourne: sailing, windsurfing, raft building.
Evening activities include campfires, night hikes, discos, movies, wacky races, and more.
Accommodation & Facilities
Schools can choose between camping under canvas or staying in our modern bunkhouse lodges at Bushy Wood. Both options include hot showers, toilet facilities, Wi-Fi access, and fully equipped catering facilities. Camping areas have fire circles and outdoor cooking shelters for an authentic outdoor experience.
Costing & Discounts
Prices vary depending on group size and season. All packages include catering, activities, accommodation, and transport between sites. Discounts apply at certain times of year:
– 13th April – 22nd May: 10% discount
– 1st June – 22nd July: standard rate
– 2nd September – 23rd October: 15% discount
Additional arrival discounts:
– 2-Day Residential starting Monday or Tuesday: +5% discount
– 3-Day Residential starting Monday: +5% discount

Free Teacher Places
Buzz Active provides free teacher places according to group size:
– Up to 17 students: 2 free teachers
– Up to 29 students: 3 free teachers
– Up to 41 students: 4 free teachers
– Up to 53 students: 5 free teachers
– 60+ students: 6 free teachers
Group Sizes
Residentials are available for groups of 6–60 students. For groups above 60 (up to 300), please contact us for a bespoke package.
Staffing & Safety
Our instructor-to-student ratio follows recommendations from the relevant national governing bodies. All instructors are fully qualified and trained, with activities delivered in line with national governing body standards. Risk assessments and operating procedures are available on request.
