RYA Level 1 Powerboat
This course covers launching and recovery, safety equipment, pre-start checks, personal buoyancy, boat handling (starting and stopping, use of kill cord, steering controls, securing to a buoy, leaving and coming alongside, being towed), theory and background, including awareness of other water users. Min age 8 years (supervised).

RYA Level 2 Powerboat
A two-day courses for those with some powerboat experience that includes high speed handling, manoeuvring, and man overboard recovery. Level 2 is a basic requirement for hiring a powerboat or taking your boat abroad. Minimum age 12 years. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

RYA Safety Boat Course
A two-day course for those powerboat helms who need to know how to rescue all manner of small craft. An essential qualification for instructors, and people who do any kind of boat work.

ICC Direct Assessment Level 2
Direct Assessment is a one-day, level 2 course for those with considerable helming experience, or those wishing to upgrade to the new qualification photo card certificate and apply for an ICC (International Certificate of Competence).

RYA Powerboat instructor course
Pre-entry assessment
The first day is a skills assessment day. This is to ensure candidates have the basic skills prior to the first day of the course.
The course
Three day course assessed by an independent Trainer on the third day.
Pre requisite qualifications
First aid certificate
RYA Powerboat Level 2
Health declaration form or medical questionnaire
Experience
Five seasons experience of powerboat use, logged (preferably in range of boat types and sizes) OR one season for those who use powerboats as an integral part of their normal full-time occupation.
Outcome
You will be qualified to teach up to and including Powerboat Level 2 under the supervision of the Principal or Chief Instructor. If you hold the Safety Boat Certificate, you may also teach the RYA Safety Boat Course.
